To help support young people still recovering from the recent earthquake in Haiti, We Give Books has joined forces with World Vision, the humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. The non-profit organization serves close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. When the devastating earthquake shook Haiti in early January, World Vision was uniquely positioned to help.

Mission

As might be expected, World Vision's initial response in Haiti was focused on emergency relief: More than 800 Haitian staff as well as a dozen international disaster response experts responded immediately throughout affected areas. Together, they rushed more than 18 metric tons of basic relief supplies to the quake zone, focusing on distributions for families and providing food, clean water, and emergency medical care.

World Vision remains in Haiti today, and with basic needs slowly being met, they are now expanding their efforts to include services and supports most of us take very much for granted, including the care and education of many of the country’s most vulnerable.

Impact

World Vision's new Early Childhood Development Learning Space program provides an immediate, safe, and consistent environment for children whose families are still recovering from the earthquake. We Give Books will be providing books and other learning supplies to these centers and to the families they serve.

Goal

This year, We Give Books will be providing an initial set of more than 5,000 new children's books to World Vision, specifically for young people served by their Haitian Early Childhood Development Learning Space program. We’ll be doing more as the difficult conditions in Haiti continue to improve, and as more Learning Spaces are developed.

Thanks to your efforts, parents and children served by these Learning Spaces will have new books to read and share together.
