Jumpstart for Young Children

Read a free children's book online today and help Jumpstart build Reading Libraries in pre-school classrooms across America.
Every child deserves the chance to succeed, yet studies show that children from low-income neighborhoods are at a greater risk of school failure. Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community volunteers to work with preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. Through a proven curriculum, these children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late.
This school year, We Give Books aims to donate more than 100,000 children's books to help build reading libraries in the neighborhoods that Jumpstart serves in. These are books that preschool children can return to again and again as they develop the language and literacy skills they need to begin a lifetime of learning.
This goal extends We Give Books one-day support of Jumpstart through Jumpstart's Read for the Record. Jumpstart's Read for the Record, presented by the Pearson Foundation, is a national campaign that mobilizes adults and children to close the early education achievement gap by setting a reading world record. During last year's campaign, We Give Books helped donate more than 40,000 books to the preschool children that Jumpstart serves.
Since 1993, Jumpstart has trained more than 20,000 college students and community volunteers to deliver its program to more than 90,000 preschool children nationwide. Thanks to your efforts, we'll help Jumpstart provide reading libraries to each of the preschool classrooms it serves. We aim to provide 100,000 books in all, each a gift to help preschool children be ready for a lifetime of learning.
Jumpstart is working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.
