Jumpstart for Young Children

Read a book online today and help We Give Books donate 10,000 books to help build reading libraries in neighborhoods where Jumpstart serves. These are books that preschool children can return to again and again as they develop the language and literacy skills they need to begin a lifetime of learning.

Every child deserves the chance to succeed, yet studies show that children from low-income neighborhoods are at a greater risk of school failure. Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community volunteers to work with preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. Through a proven curriculum, these children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late.

Since 1993, Jumpstart has trained more than 20,000 college students and community volunteers to deliver its program to more than 90,000 preschool children nationwide. Thanks to your efforts, we'll help Jumpstart provide reading libraries to each of the preschool classrooms it serves. We aim to provide 100,000 books in all, each a gift to help preschool children be ready for a lifetime of learning.

Jumpstart is working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.
