“Imagine a world where everyone can read…”
Worldwide at least 793 million people remain illiterate. Two-thirds of them are women. All over the world, children are hungry for learning and for the power it brings. Research shows that children learn to read and write best by writing and telling the stories of their own experiences. Yet it is rare to find safe spaces where children feel fully comfortable to do so. LitWorld is changing that.
LitWorld joins together with teachers, parents, community members, and children to support the development of sustainable literacy practices across the world. The organization’s mission is to use the power of story to cultivate literacy skills in the world's most vulnerable children through Education, Advocacy and Innovation.
March 7, 2012 is LitWorld’s World Read Aloud Day! World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child’s right to a safe education and access to books and technology.
This year, LitWorld aims to engage 1 million people in this event! Learn more here and register to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people.
