On My Mind Foundation (OMM) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit foundation with a mission of advancing the cause of basic education for children in countries of great crisis and social need. OMM believes that illiteracy and hopelessness can be reversed one child at a time. Under OMM leadership and in collaboration with public and private sector partners, a respected group of educators, information system experts, international development executives, field staff, artists, and athletes, OMM will develop country-specific plans to produce immediate and sustainable education outcomes.
Pop Up Haiti is a field program developed and deployed by the On My Mind Foundation in Haiti to address the staggering illiteracy and at-risk youth problem in Haiti, exacerbated a thousand-fold by the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. Pop Up Haiti is delivered by an experienced team of educators, child psychologists, artists, athletes, and international program administrators executing a consistent and measurable, integrated teacher training, Pop Up Schools and social networking education project.
Pop Up Haiti will train independent Haitian teachers over the course of 36 months resulting in a cadre of trained educators who can access and deliver a 20-week curriculum in basic literacy, music, visual arts, and physical education virtually anywhere on the island that a school can "pop up" from actual schools to rural countryside, from the streets of the slums to the soccer fields. Pop Up teachers will follow a certified "standard" curriculum designed to decrease literacy and increase optimism in Haitian children ages 7-16 and will directly reach a targeted 100,000 students in its first three (3) years.
Over the course of three (3) years, On My Mind Foundation working in conjunction with La Noblesse Charter School in Port au Prince, Haiti will follow the comprehensive and disciplined Pop Up Haiti model focusing on two core areas:
Pop Up Teacher and Curriculum Training
Understanding and working through the cultural, societal and peer issues related to barriers to literacy, On My Mind Foundation will partner with educators, curriculum writers, and information systems experts to develop a 20-week curriculum in basic literary that will also include the arts and athletics.
On My Mind Teacher & Student Coaching & Social Networking
With a commitment to the belief that illiteracy and hopelessness can be erased one child at a time, On My Mind Foundation will create and moderate a Pop Up online social network to link Haitian students and teachers to an international community interested in supporting, mentoring, and coaching one individual to success at a time.
While each child's experience will vary, each Pop Up Haiti will be designed to achieve positive outcomes in the students' educational achievement. Provided exercises and games, impromptu lessons and, personal and group discussions will be designed to be impactful, memorable and sustainable so that the child can take away simple lessons for lifelong education and inspiration.
